SF No. 1, Part 1, 2, 3 and 4, spray paint, found paper and customized frame

SF No. 1, All Aboard, created by San Francisco based artist Mário Pires Cordeiro as a permanent installation for the Check-In Wine Lounge, conducts a dialogue between traits intrinsic to the existing space and four collages produced in a fine arts studio environment, using interventions directly on the wall to bridge the gap between them. The strong diagonals throughout the installation and the space itself evoke movement, commotion, and excitement, all reflective of the social atmosphere of the bar. Each of the framed pieces repurposes materials from previous works: spray paint from Higher, Mário’s 2012 London Olympics commission, as well as the original paper from Portable Sculpture (2012) cut into smaller pieces. The shared physical makeup of Mário’s body of work is representative of a larger continuity between creative process, concept, and technique that encapsulates his practice as a whole.
