SF No. 23 is a progression from the large painting SF No. 17, made of upcycled scraps of corduroy. The piece addresses the removal of the artist’s agency in choosing color, as the source fabric tones remain unchanged, affected only by the spray paint lines laid on top. The conglomeration of triangular fragments points to a union of artistic directions, while the spray paint divisions underscore the distance between them. The body of the sculpture is elevated by a sleek metal stand painted in Classic Blue, the Pantone color of the year 2020. As a prominent color trend, this blue activates an emotional response in the collective consciousness, providing a base tone for the vibrant, almost chaotic corduroy atop.
